A menudo me gusta comparar el disfrutar la música que me gusta con saborear un buen whisky --o whiskey, si no hablamos del escocés--, hechos, los dos, que pueden parecer dispares pero que guardan ciertos puntos en común. Hay discos que en cada audición se descubren nuevos matices; lo mismo pasa con el buen whisky, a fuerza de ir probando y degustando uno le encuentra el gusto y, a cada nueva cata más aromas y sabores. Para mi, el buen whisky y la buena música van unidos y si puedo disfrutar de estos dos placeres a la vez ¿por qué hacerlo por separado? Aquí van tres ejemplos que dan crédito de que la unión del agua de Escocia y la música pueden producir grandes cosas.

Whiskey In The Jar. Thin Lizzy. La canción versionada por el grupo de Phil Lynnott es un tema tradicinal del folk irlandés y cantada a diario en los pubs del país. Más grupos y artistas la han adaptado, pero me gustaría centrarme en la versión de Thin Lizzy, ya que para mi es un tanto especial. Esos punteos iniciales de guitarra han pasado a la posteridad, así como la interpretación vocal de Lynnott, otro genio que nos dejó antes de tiempo. Ideal para acompañar con un whisky Oban.

Whiskey, Whiskey. Tim Hardin. Título más explícito que el de esta canción sobre el tema a tratar imposible. Este cantautor homenajea al whiskey con este tema, pieza que me ha marcado profundamente, pués con ella descubrí al gran artista que la compuso. Es un corte que aconsejo gozar con un bourbon, por ejemplo un Four Rouses.

Whiskey Woman. The Flamin' Groovies. Hemos hablado de mezclar el whisky y la música, pero los Flammin' Groovies además incorporan el elemento femenino. Cuando empieza este tema y lo escuchamos por primera vez podemos pensar que es una balada, pero cuando los minutos pasan deriva hacia un rock 'n roll salvaje, haciendo honor a las características del grupo. Rock 'n roll en estado puro... ¿qué tal amenizarlo con Jack Daniel's?

A finales de los años 60 el Reino Unido era la capital musical de Europa. Desde el otro lado del Atlántico llegaban los ecos de la psicodelia, el acid rock y el R&B entro otros, incidiendo en los grupos emergentes de la escena británica, rebosante de creatividad musical en todos los ámbitos. Juventud, drogas, ganas de protestar y de expresarse fueron algunos de los ingredientes que hicieron posible que la psicodelia tomase importancia por aquel entonces. Unos con más transcendencia que otros nos dejaron joyas como las siguientes:

A Rose For Emily. The Zombies. Exquisita canción correspondiente a la obra maestra del grupo, el LP Odessey & Oracle. Escuchar este tema es como lamerse esa miel que queda en los labios después de tomar una buena chucharada de la misma. Es triste que casi siempre que se cite a The Zombies sea para nombrar al que es probablemente su tema más famoso, ""Time Of The Season", cuando existen verdaderas joyas como la que nos atiñe.

Cerdes (Outside The Gates Of). Procol Harum. Cuando el bajo inicia la canción, cuando el piano evoca sus notas, cuando la batería entra en escena y cuando la guitarra se apunta a la fiesta se confirma que Procol Harum son algo más que "A Wither Shade Of Pale". Genial de principio a fin, este tema se contrapone al single que hizo al grupo mundialmente famoso, ya que en él, además de la parte rítmica, la guitarra se desliza de forma estridente en algunas partes, mezclándose con el teclado y con la potente voz de Gary Brooker. Un delicia.

When Will The Rain Come. The Troggs. Aparecida como cara b en uno de sus singles, consigue hipnotizar con ese oscuro ritmo constante. Reg Presley sigue el ritmo de los instrumentos con la voz hasta llegar a un fade en alto, terminando así este corte de un grupo injustamente olvidado. Ni con la versión de Wet Wet Wet del tema "Love Is All Around", compuesto por Reg Presley se consiguió popularizar la formación. Los inicialmente llamados Troglodytes permacen como banda de culto y de referencia de la época.

Kilroy Was Here. The Move. En su fantástico LP debut encontramos esta gema de la psicodelia británica. De ferviente ritmo y dotada de una cuidada melodía, contiene un trabajado juego de voces, quedando patente la influencia de The Beach Boys en la agrupación liderada por Roy Wood. La verdad es que no puedo dejar de tararear su pegadizo estribillo... me gusta.
